A Hyper-Converged Solution at Douglas Macmillan Hospice reduces costs and delivers almost instant disaster recovery.
The Challenge
The Douglas Macmillan Hospice offers palliative care services to patients across the North Staffordshire area with progressive advanced diseases and limited life expectancy. Continuous availability of medical data is a critical requirement for them. They recognised that their existing backup system was no longer capable of providing the level of data protection required following a number of power outages in the area and the increasing threat of ransomware.
The Synapse360 Solution
We replaced the core infrastructure with a hyper-converged (HCI) platform from Dell EMC and VMware. This was installed at a different Dougie Mac location and served by a separate power supply. Their existing technology was also repurposed to enable a separate Disaster Recovery Solution. Additional protection is provided by offsite backups to Synapse360’s own cloud backup service for ultra-resilience.
The Benefits
This is a highly resilient and secure data protection solution that eliminates a single point of failure for the charity. It dramatically improves application performance with backups that used to take 24 hours now completed in 35 minutes. Almost instant disaster recovery time objectives are available when needed, and it’s all housed within a small footprint for the platform to fit into limited space available at the site. Every challenge is responded to with increased performance and added value.
